Creative Live workshop with David duChemin

Sometime within the past year, I checked out a book from the library called Within the Frame.  It's by a Canadian photographer named David duChemin.  In it, he talks about "vision," which is basically the motivation behind the photographs we take, and how to bring the image that everyone sees in a photograph a little bit closer to the reason behind it.  The book was probably the most helpful and enjoyable book on photography that I've ever read.  There's so many books about how to have good compostition, how to have good lighting, how to make your subjects look natural in front of the camera (okay, maybe not so many of those).  It was refreshing to read about why we take photographs in the first place!

Last Thursday, I was rather excited when I saw that David duChemin was going to be holding a workshop in Seattle about "what it means to discover our vision and create photographs that best express that intention, both in-camera and in post-production. It’s about visual language and using the tools in our visual toolbox." And better yet, anyone can watch it live for free on Creative Live! And they're offering the opportunity for 6 people to be at the workshop in person, all you have to do is create a 60 second video saying who you are and why you want to come!  So....my past two days have been rather single minded in getting this video done in time.

It took me forever to find a video editor that did what I wanted it to do. I would get the video nearly finished, and the program would crash (thank you open source for finally failing me). So frustrating! But, I finally finished it this morning, and here it is!
