Port Orchard Farmer's Market! (the second)

The above image has no bearing on the rest of this post.  It's just a good-looking photograph!

This second week of farmer's marketing went really well.  I redid my table so that I have signs that are readable, and my books are spread out so that people can see them, and I have a sign!  I'm rather proud of my sign. It's just a piece of cloth with paint on it, but I got to play with fonts and do a bit of graphic design, which is something I love.  I had to do a bit of improvisation to put it up though.  I was planning on bringing safety pins to hold it up, but forgot in trying to remember everything else.  Luckily, I found a paper clip for one side, and there was a safety pin floating around on of the bags I had with me.  *Whew!*

The best part of the market is the people. There's so many interesting people to meet and watch.  In the early morning, it's the older generation that's out and about, searching through the produce to find the perfect peach or ear of corn. An hour or two before noon, families with small children arrive, and head straight to look at the kittens! Sometime after lunch, everyone else shows up and the market really comes alive, until it winds down at 3pm.  I'm lucky to be in the middle of everything (right between the kittens and a huge produce stand), whenever I don't have anything to do, I can simply enjoy being in the midst of it all.

Hopefuly, I'll have less and less time to gaze about me as time goes on.  Things are slow at the moment (for whatever reasons) but the other vendors are incredibly encouraging, and the conversations that I do have with people are usually very good.  Just today, I met a woman who knows someone who teaches leather and oak board bookbinding, which I'd love to learn to do.  I also met an elementry teacher who is interested in having me come and teach her class.  What an amazing opportunity! It's so wonderful to talk to people about something I really enjoy.  I look forward to whatever next week brings!
