I think I may be obsessed with the bandsaw. Several nights ago, I was lying awake in bed thinking about making books. One thing that has been bothering me about my books is that the fore edge isn't even. (The fore edge is the part of the book that's opposite the spine, the part that you turn.) The journals and books still work wonderfully, but an uneven fore edge has a tendency to get dirtier over time, and it's a little less easy to find a specific place within the book.
Traditionally, this is fixed by using a guillotine to make everything even. I don't have access to one, and they're massive and expensive. Picture a giant paper cutter, like the ones at elementary schools, but bigger. So back to me, lying in bed, thinking about the edges of books. Eventually, the thought of the bandsaw crossed my mind. I think that if I clamp the pages together, either before or after they're sewn, I can use the bandsaw to make even edges. I haven't tried it yet, but when I do, I'll let you know how it goes.
